The job when you take over
- Only $1.52M of cap space. There's almost no room to add salary, so improving this team means trading money out first.
- 9 contracts end after this season, so next summer's re-signing window decides who stays.
- All 3 of your own first-round picks for the next three drafts are still yours to use or trade.

- Work the cap: retain salary, buy out contracts, use long-term injury relief and send players to the minors.
- Survive deadline day in the war room, then the July 1 free agency frenzy, offer sheets and arbitration.
- Draft and develop prospects, and coach games yourself from the bench.
