The job when you take over
- $2.75M of cap space gives you room for a depth signing or a deadline rental, but not a star.
- 8 contracts end after this season, so next summer's re-signing window decides who stays.
- You've already traded away your 2027 first-round pick. The prospect pipeline matters more than usual.

What you can do as Lightning GM
- Trade with 31 AI general managers who each have their own style, and remember how you've treated them.
- Work the cap: retain salary, buy out contracts, use long-term injury relief and send players to the minors.
- Survive deadline day in the war room, then the July 1 free agency frenzy, offer sheets and arbitration.
- Draft and develop prospects, and coach games yourself from the bench.
